Ennerdale is in the western lake district, near the coastal town of Whitehaven. It is home to the most westerly of the lakes, Ennerdale water. Due to its remoteness and relative inaccesibility, it rermains one of the most unspoilt areas of the Lake District, which ironically makes it increasingly popular with visitors. The village is also traditionally the first night stop for west to east walkers of the Coast 2 Coast long distance walk across England.
